SANTANA: Former Band Member Dies
Former Santana percussionist Armando Peraza passed away Monday at age 89.
He joined Santana in 1972 and played until retiring in 1990. Carlos Santana has issued a statement saying, “My greatest teacher/mentor/role model crossed over the other side tonight. He is now light only…no more in the body. He is free from gravity and time. Immortality is his playground, infinity is his domain. Thank you for all and everything, dearest Armando Peraza. Be with GOD and the angels, dear one.”
Peraza also played with Charlie Parker, George Shearing, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Eric Clapton, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Zappa, Rick James, Aretha Franklin and many, many others.
