Pretty Woman: The Musical — with music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance — opens tonight (Tuesday) in Chicago at the Oriental Theatre where it will remain through April 15th.

“Well writing for me is always a chore. In this case it’s good because we have a story and every song was written specifically for each scene that we needed to move along in the musical. So, it’s kind of fun to have something to start with.”

Bryan and Jim added an original score to this adaptation of the Garry Marshall comedy that paired Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. The roles will be handled on stage by Samantha Banks from the Disney Channel’s Groove High and Steve Kazee, who won a Tony Award for his lead role in the 2012 musical Once. He also appeared in a pair of episodes of the TV drama Nashville.

Pretty Woman: The Musical opens at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City on July 20th.
