U2: Bono Wants to Play Coachella

Could U2 be headed to one of the biggest festivals in the U.S.? Bono apparently hopes so.

While at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala over the weekend, Bono told the Desert Sun that he attended the festival last year and would like the opportunity to play it in the future. He then asked who was in charge of booking the festival. However, the whole conversation might have been a set-up — Coachella founder Paul Tollett told the Desert Sun to ask Bono about the festival before the gala. The first weekend of this year’s Coachella takes place April 11th through the 13th with a lineup expected to be announced within a couple of weeks.

In other U2 news, Bono and The Edge were honored for their Golden Globe-nominated song “No Ordinary Love” during a gathering at the Sunset Marquis in Hollywood Monday night.  Bono revealed that the song was inspired in part by letters between Nelson Mandela and his wife Winnie. Bono said, “It didn’t feel appropriate to write an anthem for [Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom]. We found a theme of common decency that inspired us, and it’s a plea for a common decency in a marriage.”
