In less than 15 minutes we are celebrating the birthday of the leader of an amazing British band that was not well-known in the UK, but were very successful right here in the good ol US of A! The song you’ll hear on your 1@1 was initially written in an Al Green groove, but as the frontman of the band says, he knew that wouldn’t last once the band got hold of it on the valley’s classic rock station 100.7 KSLX! your 1@1 is gonna rock in less than 15 minutes!
“Slow Ride” is Foghat’s most successful single, the only one to reach the Top 20. Dave Peverett once explained to us how it came about and says, “When I got the original idea for it, it was actually influenced by Al Green, and it was in that kind of Al Green groove, which I knew once we got into rehearsal with the band it was going to become a different kind of animal altogether. I wrote it, actually, in an afternoon. It was one of those songs that came instantly. I’d written the lyrics and everything in a couple of hours and we rehearsed that afternoon. The arrangement came about through a jam. We just were jamming and at the end I was going, ‘Faster, faster,’ to get that sort of sexual sort of innuendo going there.”
Born today in 1950, lead singer and founder of Foghat “Lonesome” Dave Peverett wrote their most successful single “Slow Ride” and says the arrangement evolved out of a jam session building up to a whole lotta sexual innuendo on the valley’s classic rock station 100.7 KSLX!
