U2: Bringing AIDS Fight to the Super Bowl
U2 are offering a day of free downloads of their new single, “Invisible,” as a tool to raise money to fight AIDS.
The giveaway will start on February 2nd, immediately following the band’s appearance singing “Invisible” in an ad airing during the Super Bowl broadcast. If you download the song from iTunes anytime during the game or for the next 24 hours, Bank of America will make a $1 donation — up to $2 million total — to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The organization provides HIV/AIDS treatment, testing and prevention services to tens of millions of people in the world’s poorest countries.
In a statement, U2 singer Bono says that Bank of America’s participation “has resulted in the Gates Foundation, SAP and Africa’s Motsepe Family matching, for a total of $22 million.” RED, the charity Bono and Bobby Shriver founded in 2006 to engage business in the fight against AIDS, has now generated more than $240 million for the Global Fund.
