For fans of rock artists who rose to prominence in the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and early ’90s, the Grammy Awards in February have very little to offer. When the nominees were announced Friday, only a small group of those artists were recognized.

U2 and Tom Petty are up for Best Rock Album with Songs of Innocence and Hypnotic Eye.

Gregg Allman was singled out for his performance of “Statesboro Blues” with Taj Mahal from the Allman tribute concert in January. It’s up for Best American Roots Performance.

The late Johnny Winter got a nod for Best Blues Album.

And that’s it. Albums by Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Pearl Jam and Metallica are also nominated, but if they win, the awards go to the folks who put the albums, packages or films together.

The 57th annual Grammy Awards will be handed out on February 8th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
