• St. Mary’s Food Bank was founded by John van Hengel, developer of the food banking concept. Globally, it is considered the world’s first food bank. In its first year, the Food Bank, comprised of van Hengel and a few volunteers, collected and distributed more than 250,000 pounds of food to 36 local agencies

• First performed by The Beatles on Our World, the first live global television link. Watched by 400 million people in 26 countries. (The performance was not completely live: The Beatles, the orchestra, and guests were overdubbing onto a pre-recorded rhythm track mainly consisting of piano, harpsichord, drums, and backing vocals.)
