The song features a tremolo effect on the guitar and an ending section with a tremolo effect on the vocals.

The song was released in late 1968 as a rough mix after a radio station leaked it.

Following a performance of the song on The Ed Sullivan Show on January 26, it became number one on Febuary 1st.
