• Jimmy Hoffa was convicted of jury tampering, attempted bribery, and fraud in 1964 and jailed in 1967.

• The first heart transplant is performed.

• Thurgood Marshal becomes the first African American Supreme Court Justice.

• Muhammad Ali is stripped of his boxing title for refusing military service.

• China explodes its first Hydrogen bomb.

• T.V.: Carol Burnett and the Smothers Brothers both debuted variety shows on television.

• The Summer of Love attracted a wide range of people of various ages, including Beatle George Harrison, would flock to the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco to “Be In” with the like minded

• Carl Sandburg: January 6, 1878 – July 22, 1967, He won three Pulitzer Prizes, two for his poetry and another for a biography of Abraham Lincoln.

• Woody Guthrie: July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967, His best-known song is "This Land Is Your Land", which is regularly sung in American schools.

• This song replaced the Beatles' "Penny Lane" at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1967.

• Impressed by Chip Douglas's studio arrangements, Monkee Michael Nesmith approached him after a Turtles show at the Whisky a Go Go and invited him to become the Monkees' new producer, as that band wanted to break out of their "manufactured" studio mold.
