• Gas prices shot up a record 85%!
• Margaret Thatcher becomes Britain’s first female Prime Minister
• The Sahara Desert experiences snow for 30 minutes.
• President Jimmy Carter is attacked by a swamp rabbit while fishing in Georgia.
• Iran hostage crisis begins: Iranian radicals, invade the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and take 90 hostages (53 of whom are American). They demand that the United States send the former Shah of Iran back to stand trial.

• They chose the name as a nod to the Byrds an influential California outfit of a decade earlier.  
• The Eagles had put up some awesome numbers: 5 #1 singles and 4 #1 albums one of which is one of the top 3 best selling albums of all time.
• The “Long Run”  took two years to make, and was originally intended to be a double album but the band was unable to come up with enough songs. 
• The song received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
• The Eagles last #1 hit “Heartache Tonight” your #1 @ 1 from November 1979.
