Apollo 13 was the third Apollo mission intended to land on the Moon.

The war in Viet Nam continued to rage as did protests, the most infamous was where 4 students would be gunned down at Kent State University Monday, May 4, 1970.

Ads for cigarettes would no longer be seen on T.V. (Cigarettes were one of the first products to be advertised on television)


FADS and ENTERTAINMENT

Isle of Wight became the largest rock festival ever playing to 600,000. Performers included The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, The Doors, Ten Years After, Emerson,
Lake & Palmer, Joni Mitchell, The Moody Blues, Donovan, Free, Chicago, Jethro Tull.

First Earth Day took place on April 22nd

MOVIES: 

o M*A*S*H: Nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing, won an Oscar for its screenplay.

 o Patton: Stars George C. Scott and Karl Malden. Scott won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1971. He famously refused to accept it.

o Love Story: Number 9 most romantic movie of all time by the American Film Institute.

Jimi Hendrix: Born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970 died in London under circumstances which have never been fully explained

Janis Joplin: Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) The official cause of death was an overdose of heroin.

Gypsy Rose Lee: January 8, 1911 – April 26, 1970, burlesque entertainer, famous for her striptease act. She was also an actress, author and playwright.

Walter Reuther: September 1, 1907 – May 9, 1970. American labor union leader.

Let It Be, was originally intended to be released before Abbey Road during mid-1969 as Get Back, but the Beatles were unhappy with that version.

Ranked number 86, in Rolling Stones list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2003.

The Beatles go to #1 for the 20th time with “Let It Be” your #1@1 from April 1970.
