Former Asia singer John Payne is suing the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on multiple counts after being fired from the show he helped create.

Payne and music producer David Kershenbaum came up with the format for Raiding the Rock Vault, which showcases the rise of rock music from 1948 and 1989. Payne, who had royalty agreements with the hotel, alleges that he was forced under threat of being fired to assign them back to the hotel, then was fired anyway. He claims breach of performance and royalty arrangements, copyright infringement, slander and alleges that his publicity rights were violated when the hotel continued using his name him in advertising after he left.

The Hollywood Reporter has compared the suit to the one filed against Spider Man: Turn Off of the Dark by the Broadway show’s original director, Julie Taymor, after she was let go from the production.

Since it began, Raiding the Rock Vault has featured such musicians as Howard Leese of Bad Company and Heart, Doug Aldrich of Whitesnake, Paul Shortino of Quiet Riot, and Robin McAuley of Survivor and MSG. Payne fronted Asia between 1992 and 2006.
