FREDDIE LENNON: John's Dad Was Born 100 Years Ago Today
Today we mark the centennial of John Lennon's father, Alfred "Freddie" Lennon, who was born on December 14th, 1912.
He was hardly Father-of-the-Year material -- the sailor was a cheating husband who had very little contact with his son until he was an adult.
In 1965, at the height of Beatlemania, Freddie landed a deal to make a record, capitalizing on his famous last night. Signing with EMI's British rival Pye, he released the narrative "That's My Life (My Love and My Home)." While it failed to become a hit, we found a clip online, and Freddie's Liverpool accent bore a rather striking resemblance to John's.
