Sammy Hagar did his first Four Decades of Rock show over the weekend in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, the prototype of what he hopes becomes his tour next year. The show represented all the major recording chapters of his career -- Montrose, solo, Van Halen and Chickenfoot.

Hagar and his Wabos kicked things off with a nine-song set that included "I Can't Drive 55," There's Only One Way to Rock" and "Heavy Metal."

Next up was Michael Anthony, who, along with the Wabos, did a set as The Other Half playing five songs from Van Halen including "Why Can't This Be Love," "When It's Love" and "Top of the World."

Montrose was next with original drummer Denny Carmassi and bassist Bill Church with Chickenfoot's Joe Satriani sitting in for the late Ronnie Montrose. They did five songs starting off with "Good Rockin' Tonight" and ending with "Space Station #5."

And then Hagar and Chickenfoot, with Carmassi on drums, came out for a three-song encore that started with Lake Tahoe resident David Coverdale trading verses with Hagar on Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll." Just before bringing Coverdale on stage, Hagar said, "If I only did this once in my lifetime, I would be happy. This is a great night... I'm turning 65 (on October 13th). I'm cool with it. Everybody's always trying to lie about their age. [Screw] that. I never dreamed I'd still be doing this, but now, I never dreamed about quitting!"
