ALLMAN BROTHERS: Will They Ramble or Rumble?

The Allman Brothers Band will be honored Saturday night in Los Angeles as they receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy. All the original surviving members are expected to attend, including guitarist Dickey Betts, who they fired in 2000. A formal acknowledgment of their honor will be made during the Grammy telecast.

The award goes to performers who've made contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording. This year's other honorees are Glen Campbell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Jones, The Memphis Horns, Diana Ross, Gil Scott-Heron, Dave Bartholomew, Steve Jobs and Rudy Van Gelder.

And, one of the following members of the Allman Brothers may also come away with a Grammy as albums by Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks are all nominated for Best Blues Album.
