BEATLES: 50th Anniversary Countdown
Tommy Roe was one of the first American artists to get to know The Beatles. He and fellow American hit-maker Chris Montez were booked to tour Britain in March 1963. Originally, they were the headliners. But soon, the frenzied response to The Beatles led to their taking over the closing spot. He appreciates how the Fab Four steered rock away from the softer sound that dominated the early '60s and back toward the style of Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry. Chosen by The Beatles a year later to open their first theatrical concert in the U.S., Tommy has fond memories of that working and traveling with The Beatles and being an eyewitness to history.
