Elton John and Simon and Garfunkel can help relieve the pain of headaches.
The Lloyds Pharmacy chain in the U.K. commissioned a study that found 41 percent of all people suffering persistent pain -- and 66 percent between ages 16 and 24 -- felt better after listening to music. And the songs with the highest pain-relieving powers include Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Elton John's "Candle in the Wind," Fleetwood Mac's "Albatross" and The Commodores' "Easy."
A spokesperson for the chain says they are "trialing the use of music within our pain service in some of our pharmacies. There are lots of different ways of managing pain, not only with medicines but also with lifestyle changes such as moderate exercise and relaxation."
