Duck's Farewell.

DONALD "DUCK "DUNN: A New Orleans Send Off in Memphis

A funeral was held Wednesday for legendary Memphis bass player Donald "Duck" Dunn in Memphis, where he was born in 1941.

Like last month's funeral for his friend Levon Helm -- he was part of Levon's RCO All-Star band -- Dunn was sent off with a New Orleans-style march down Beale Street. More than 100 fans followed the band, which featured saxophonist Kirk Whalum and soul singer Eddie Floyd as they played "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and more. Dunn was 70 when he died in his sleep on May 13th while on tour in Japan. Floyd was on the tour, saying Dunn did not feel well during his last show but finished it anyway.

In addition to being one of Booker T.'s MGs, Dunn also played with Eric Clapton, The Blues Brothers, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Otis Redding, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and many others.
