Elton John will be honored in Poland Sunday.

Elton John will be honored in Gdansk, Poland on Sunday with The Medal of Gratefulness. Former Polish president Lech Wałęsa [pr: va-WEN-suh] will present the award during Elton's concert at the Ergo Arena Hall.

Prior to a concert in Gdansk in 1984, Elton visited Walesa, who was then a labor organizer, at his apartment. At his show that night, Elton expressed hope for political change in Poland and Europe.

The Medal of Gratefulness was established by the European Solidarity Center to acknowledge foreign friends of Poland who actively supported the Solidarity movement.

Elton performs in Lodz, Poland on Saturday.
