Paul McCartney will be made an officer of the Legion of Honour by French President Francois Hollande in France on Saturday. The award, France's highest public distinction, has been presented to such performers as Clint Eastwood, Miles Davis, Liza Minnelli, Arnold Schwarzeenegger, Barbra Streisand and Jerry Lewis. The award was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and is symbolized by a red lapel thread. It has three grades, Chevalier, Officer and Commander. Unlike other awards where you receive a trophy or medal and sometimes cash, recipients of the Legion of Honour have to buy their own medal from a licensed jeweler with prices ranging from $210 to $880 for the highest rank.
