JOHN LENNON: All You Need Is Gaga
Yoko Ono will present the Lennon-Ono Grant for Peace award to Lady Gaga on Tuesday in Reykjavik, Iceland. The pop singer is being recognized for her political activism, and she'll also accept a donation for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. (Gaga is the godmother to Elton's son Zachary.)
Yoko says, "Lady Gaga is one of the biggest living artists of our time. She is not only an artist, she is also an activist, using her art to bring better communication to the world. She is being acknowledged for her activism, and how her album Born This Way has widely changed the mental map of the world. And how it has made us deal with the future world, which happens to be here already."
The award ceremony is part of the annual John Lennon celebration in Iceland on October 9th, which would have been his 72nd birthday. The Imagine Peace Tower, designed by Yoko, will once again be lit in his memory.
