GRAMMY AWARDS: 54th Annuals are Sunday Night

The 54th annual Grammy Awards will be handed out Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Kanye West tops the nominations with seven followed by Adele, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars with six, Lil Wayne and Skrillex are up for five, and Drake, Nicki Minaj, Mumford & Sons, Radiohead and Rihanna are among those with four each.

With 30 categories eliminated this year to make it more competitive, it's slim pickings for the classic rock community. Only a handful of artists were nominated and they are:

  • Jeff Beck - Best Rock Album for Rock 'N' Roll Party Honoring Les Paul
  • Levon Helm - Best Americana Album for Ramble at the Ryman
  • Gregg Allman is going up against two of his Allman Brothers bandmates in the Best Blues Album category -- Allman for Low Country Blues, guitarist Warren Haynes for Man in Motion and guitarist Derek Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeschi for the Tedeschi-Trucks Band's Revelator
  • Chickenfoot - Best Recording Package for Chickenfoot Three
  • Bruce Springsteen - Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story
  • Paul McCartney - Best Historical Album for deluxe edition of Band on the Run
  • Derek and the Dominos - Best Surround Sound Album for deluxe version of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs

This year's performers include Paul McCartney, the reunited Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Brian May joining Lady Gaga, Joe Walsh Bonnie Raitt, Foo Fighters and Coldplay. Ringo Starr is one of the presenters.

The Grammys, hosted by LL Cool J, air live on CBS at 8p.m. ET/PT. --Sal Cirrincione
