GRAMMY AWARDS: Welcome Back, Bruce and Beach Boys

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and the reunited Beach Boys returned to the stage during last night's Grammy Awards, highlighting a classic rock-heavy show.

  • Springsteen and the E Streeters, in their first performance since the passing of Clarence Clemons, opened the show with their new single "We Take Care of Our Own."
  • The Beach Boys performed "Good Vibrations" alongside two newcomers who paid tribute to them, Maroon 5 and Foster the People.
  • Paul McCartney fans got a double treat last night, as he and the Eagles' Joe Walsh performed "My Valentine," from his new album Kisses on the Bottom. He returned to close the show by doing the medley from The Beatles' Abbey Road, "Carry That Weight/Golden Slumbers/The End," with help from Walsh, Springsteen and Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl.
  • Bonnie Raitt and R&B singer Alicia Keys paid tribute to the late Etta James by covering "Sunday Kind of Love."

In between all the performances, some Grammys were handed out -- and quite a few went to classic rockers.

  • Foo Fighters grabbed five, including Best Rock Album. (The band also performed twice on the show.)
  • McCartney won a Grammy for Best Historical Album for the deluxe Band on the Run reissue.
  • The Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package went to Springsteen's The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story.
  • Other winners included Levon Helm for Best Americana Album and Derek and the Dominos' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (Super Deluxe Edition) for Best Surround Sound Album.

Ringo Starr was scheduled to attend as a presenter, but bowed out due to illness.
