GRAMMY PREVIEW: Jeff Beck

With the Recording Academy eliminating 30 categories at this year's Grammy Awards, it's slim pickings for the classic rock community. Only a handful of artists were nominated and among them is Jeff Beck who is up for Best Rock Album for Rock 'N' Roll Party Honoring Les Paul.

Beck, who was the most nominated rock act last year with five and winning three, paid tribute to his idol with two shows at New York's Iridium jazz club in June 2010 followed by a U.S. tour backed by The Imelda May Band.

Other classic rock acts nominated this year include:

  • Levon Helm for Best Americana Album for Ramble at the Ryman.

  • Gregg Allman's Low Country Blues is going up against two of his Allman Brothers bandmates in the Best Blues Album category -- Warren Haynes for Man in Motion and guitarist Derek Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeschi for the Tedeschi-Trucks Band's Revelator.
  • Chickenfoot's Chickenfoot Three is up for Best Recording Package.
  • Bruce Springsteen's The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package.
  • Paul McCartney's deluxe edition of Band on the Run for Best Historical Album.
  • Derek and the Dominos' deluxe version of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs for Best Surround Sound Album.

The Grammys air live from the Staples Center in L.A. on Sunday night at 8 ET/PT on CBS.
