Hometown Hendrix.

A Jimi Hendrix exhibit, in celebration of what would have been his 70th birthday, will open in his hometown of Seattle in November.

Jimi Hendrix would have turned 70 on November 27th, and in celebration, the Experience Music Project Museum in his hometown of Seattle will unveil a major new exhibit in his honor. Endorsed by Experience Hendrix, the family run company that oversees his legacy, Hear My Train a Comin’: Hendrix Hits London focuses on Jimi's arrival in London in September 1966, his rise to prominence on the British pop charts and his subsequent return to America in June 1967 when his performance at the Monterey International Pop Festival helped put him on the world stage.

Highlights from the exhibit, which are now on display at The Hospital Club in London through August 31st, includes rare costumes, instruments, handwritten lyrics, photographs and albums, along with never-before-seen artifacts from the estate of Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell. The exhibit opens on November 17th.

This is what remains of the guitar that Jimi Hendrix smashed at the conclusion of his famous performance at London’s Saville Theater on June 4th, 1967. He painted the guitar himself and even composed the poem on the back of the instrument, which will be on display at the EMP in Seattle starting in November.
