Hotel California: The Musical.

The Eagles are planning a musical based on their song "Hotel California."

In addition to working on a documentary in celebration of their 40th anniversary, the Eagles have also given their blessing to a musical based on their album, Hotel California. Glenn Frey says it is being produced by actress Rita Wilson, wife of Tom Hanks, who is behind Abba's Mamma Mia. Frey says the biggest challenge with this idea is "getting [the songs] in the right vehicle." No word on when Hotel California: The Musical will hit the stage.

It has been hit and miss with rock acts taking their songs to the stage. Hits include the Four Seasons, Queen, Billy Joel and The Who. Among those who have fallen flat on their face are Paul Simon, John Lennon, Bob Dylan and The Beach Boys.
