NEIL YOUNG: Causing Controversy

Neil Young's version of "God Save the Queen" on his collection of mostly American folks songs, Americana, is upsetting a few people, causing his label, Warner Brothers, to issue a statement, which in part says the song is "very much part of the fabric of our American heritage," and it has served as the "de facto national anthem of sorts before the establishment of The Union as we know it, until we came to adopt 'The Star Spangled Banner'"

"God Save the Queen" was adopted for "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," also known as "America," which served as the U.S. national anthem for more than a century after we achieved our independence from England. Americana will be out on June 5th.
