Island Up For Grabs.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine You Owned an Island

An island off the west coast of Ireland once owned by John Lennon is up for sale.

An island off the west coast of Ireland once owned by John Lennon is up for sale. Lennon bought the island, known as Beatle Island, in 1967 for $2700. Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, sold it to farmers in 1984, and they are now looking to unload it for $384,000.

Rock historians believe Lennon's goal was to settle there after he retired. In 1971, he told Rolling Stone, "I hope we're a nice old couple living off the coast of Ireland or something like that -- looking out at our scrapbook of madness."

Fellow Beatle George Harrison also enjoyed island living, and although he never owned one, he did have homes on two -- Maui and Hamilton Island off the coast of Australia
