GEORGE HARRISON: Widow Halts Statue Bid
Olivia Harrison, the widow of George Harrison, has stopped a plan to erect a statue of the ex-Beatle near his former home in England. James Lambert from Henley-on-Thames, where Harrison lived until his death in 2001, wrote to Olivia about his campaign to erect a bronze statue in the town, and she responded by saying she would prefer a community project instead.
Lambert tells the BBC, "The statue could create problems of different types of fans turning up, the unwanted fans. Gauging the pulse in terms of Henley residents, I think there was a lot of support. This petition wasn't tapping into the Beatles fanfare worldwide, it was much more to recognize George's contribution to Henley and the affection Henley had for him."who also sings on the track.
