IRON BUTTERFLY: Bassist Dead at 70
Lee Dorman, who was the original bassist in Iron Butterfly, was found dead in California Friday.
In case you missed the news over the holidays, Lee Dorman, who was the original bassist in Iron Butterfly, was found dead in his car outside his California home Friday. He was 70. The coroner attributed the death to natural causes. Dorman had heart problems and was on a transplant list.
After earning immortality for the bass line of “In-a-Gadda-da-Vida” in 1968, Dorman left the group and went on to form the Anglo-American band Captain Beyond with Larry Reinhardt, the guitarist from Iron Butterfly, and Rod Evans, who had been the singer in Deep Purple. Coincidentally, Reinhardt died earlier this year.
