PAUL McCARTNEY: Time to Turn 70

Paul McCartney's 70th birthday on June 18th will be commemorated with a special issue of TIME magazine. It will be published on June 5th in hardcover and is being called a "backstage tour of the many chapters of McCartney's life."

An advance cover of the issue shows Macca holding his iconic Hofner bass guitar, but TIME is holding a poll on Facebook asking fans to choose from eight different covers -- four from his days in The Beatles, and four in the 42 years since.

Last October, LIFE published a magazine devoted to George Harrison.

McCartney and Ringo Starr's performance at the 2009 Change Begins Within benefit for the David Lynch Foundation at New York's Radio City Music Hall will be shown on PBS starting April 29th. Other performers that night included Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Mike Love and Jerry Seinfeld.
