Author Philip Norman, in his new book Mick Jagger, levels that claim at the U.K.'s secret service. He writes that the organization planted a drug dealer in the band's inner-circle with the intention of discrediting them so they would fall out of favor with their fans.

The February 1967 police raid on Keith Richards’ home, known as Redlands, failed to bring down the Stones, although Jagger and Richards did spend some time in jail.
