THE MONKEES: Big Announcement Wednesday, Dolenz Album in September

The Monkees are making a "special announcement" as Micky Dolenz readies a new album.

The Monkees are teasing a "special announcement" they'll make on their Facebook page on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Micky Dolenz is prepping his next solo album. He describes it as "classic tunes that will evoke some cherished memories from listeners of all ages." Titled Remember and due September 25th, it features several songs that connect to special moments in Dolenz's life.

  • He does "Johnny B. Goode" because it was his audition song for The Monkees.
  • John Lennon played The Beatles' "Good Morning, Good Morning" for him by the day he visited the Fab Four at Abbey Road Studios while they were working on Sergeant Pepper.
  • His producer David Harris suggested "Sugar Sugar" because The Monkees -- then-warring with their TV show's music supervisor Don Kirshner -- turned it down!
  • And the title track, "Remember," was written by Micky's close pal, the late Harry Nilsson.
