His book, If You Like The Beatles, traces an amazingly diverse range of influences that shaped their career. From their early days performing in Liverpool and Hamburg, to their re-definition of rock with Sergeant Pepper and The White Album, Pollock traces the music that John Lennon and Paul McCartney heard and learned from. He also looks at the styles and sounds that drew inspiration from the Fab Four. Names as diverse as Bing Crosby, Frank Zappa, Fats Waller, R.E.M. and Carl Perkins also pop up in the book.
