Pete Townshend says he finished the audiobook recording of his memoir, Who I Am, on Saturday. He writes in his "Summer Blog" on The Who's website, "The book was accepted by my publisher just two weeks ago... 1000 [pages] cut to 500. There are a lot of dodgy stories left over."
But Townshend hasn't abandoned his day job. "I’ve continued to write music. While in France for a few weeks during June and July I squeezed in seven new demos --I’ve got a lot of music now for [my next rock opera] Floss. So much music is work-in-progress that I really need to stop composing and start pulling the various elements together."
Townshend says The Who's performance at the London Olympics Closing Ceremonies "nearly didn’t happen for us -- Roger [Daltrey] and I weren’t certain that two old geezers should be there singing about our generation, but I’m so glad we did it."
Who I Am will be published on October 8th, and The Who start their Quadrophenia tour on November 1st in Sunrise, Florida.
