Don't look for Elton John to take the place of Steven Tyler or Jennifer Lopez on American Idol -- his opinion of TV talent shows hasn't changed. In his latest rant against the likes of Idol and X Factor, he says, "Television is not a good way to have a start of a career. It's a shortcut to fame, and it's also a shortcut to disaster. When you win the X Factor, you have a year until it's the next person, and then you get dropped. The proof of the pudding is [NBC's] The Voice. The single didn't get into the Top 40, [and] they've cancelled the live tour."

Elton's book Love Is the Cure: On Life, Loss and the End of AIDS comes out tomorrow (Tuesday), and he performs in Germany on Wednesday
