BRIAN WILSON: His First Online Chat
Brian Wilson talked music new and old, rivals, baseball and how he'd like to be remembered. During Monday's Facebook chat -- a transcipt of which he posted on his website -- the surf rock icon answered questions from fans. Among them:
•Jeff Beck is playing on -- but didn't co-write any songs for -- Brian's upcoming album.
•"Sail Away" (not the Randy Newman song) and "Last Song" are favorites among the new songs he's working on.
•"God Only Knows" is the best song he's ever written.
•As for a Beach Boys song that doesn't get as much attention as it should, Wilson suggested "The Little Girl I Once Knew."
•His favorite song (counting those by others) is "Be My Baby."
•As for modern or more recent songs, Brian said he's fond of Berlin's "Take My Breath Away."
•"Good Vibrations" was the most challenging song of his to arrange and sing harmonies for.
•Summer Days and Summer Nights is his favorite Beach Boys album.
•If he could return to the past, "I would not take drugs. No one should take drugs."
•The last concert he attended purely as a spectator was Paul McCartney.
•On whether he'd ever do an album with McCartney, he said, "No I don't think so, but you never know."
•He also replied, "You never know" when asked if he planned to work with newly crowned Grammy winners Daft Punk.
•Away from music, he said the Yankees were his favorite sports team as a kid and he played center field in high school because of Mickey Mantle.
•Years from now, he'd like his legacy to be "I was a good singer."
