An effort is under way to make July 15th Ray Davies Day in Portland, Oregon, winding up with his performance that night at the Aladdin Theatre. Gregarious Cline, the lead singer of the Kinks tribute band the Young Eduardians, is spearheading the effort, feeling that Portland needs to correct a wrong committed when police mistakenly arrested Davies there in 1980. Davies, arriving for a show with The Kinks, was taken in because cops believed he was an imposter who'd passed bad checks and impersonated him at an in-store appearance. Cline says he has the blessing of Mayor Sam Adams and is working on organizing other festivities for the day.
