Clayton testifies in case against former personal assistant

U2 bassist Adam Clayton has taken the stand in Dublin in the trial against his former personal assistant Carol Hawkins, who's accused of ripping him off for more than $3.5 million. Prosecutors claim that Carol transferred the money into her personal account between 2004 and 2008, which she denies. Clayton testified, "I trusted people, and that's why we're here today."

But even after discovering that Hawkins had been allegedly taking advantage of his finances, he still kept her on staff -- although took away her access to his accounts. He explained, "I felt she looked after my money and on many occasions accused others of being greedy, so I was extremely surprised."

The trial, which got under way earlier this month, is expected to last six weeks.
