RANDY NEWMAN: Adler and Quincy Knew Him as a Teenager
Randy Newman wasn't at Tuesday's press conference at which he was announced as a soon-to-be Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, but two of the future inductees who were there, Lou Adler and Quincy Jones, tell us they've known Newman since he was a teenager.
Adler recalls Warner Brothers executive Lenny Waronker bringing the aspiring songwriter around to his office and asking him for some "hints" about the craft. His advice? "I gave him a stack of Carole King demos."
