GENE SIMMONS: Helping to Lick Out Child Abuse

Gene Simmons and his family were in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada over the weekend where his daughter Sophie cut the ribbon on Sophie's Place, a one-stop service provider for victims of child abuse. Sophie says, "It's really important for me to have kids have a place where adults can take them seriously and where they can express what's happened to them in a safe environment."

Sophie became involved in this initiative after meeting with Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. "They asked if they could use my name. And of course, who would say no to that? When I was in high school, I did a lot of travelling and working in orphanages around the world. But I never really thought about helping kids where I live because I never thought there was a problem. It's not visible [the abuse] to everyone, but it does happen."

You'll see highlights of the ribbon-cutting ceremony later this year when the next series of Gene Simmons Family Jewels premieres on A&E.
