Paul Simon performed "The Sound of Silence" at the funeral of Victoria Soto, one of the teachers killed in the Newtown, Connecticut school shootings, on Wednesday.

Paul Simon performed "The Sound of Silence" at the funeral of Victoria Soto, one of the teachers killed in the Newtown, Connecticut school shootings, on Wednesday.

Simon is a friend of Soto's family. His publicist released a statement saying, "The Sotos and Simons met through Vicki’s mother and Paul’s sister-in-law, both nurses." He performed the same song last year at the 10th anniversary commemoration of the 9/11 attacks.

Soto was the first grade teacher who ushered her students into a closet and then shielded them from gunfire as they tried to run away.
