MICK JAGGER: Doesn't Want to be a Political Football

Mick Jagger chose not to appear at this week's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, unhappy that it became "a political football." London's Guardian says The Rolling Stones front-man was to have appeared at a tea party sponsored by British Prime Minister David Cameron.

In a statement, he explained that he's "always eschewed party politics and came to Davos as a guest, as I thought it would be stimulating. I have always been interested in economics and world events. I now find myself being used as a political football and there has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances which are inaccurate. I think it's best I decline the invitation to the key event and curtail my visit."

Rumors had spread that Jagger might use the occasion to officially announce his support for the Conservative party, which controls the British government.
