DEEP PURPLE: Hey Hall of Fame, No Thanks |
|
Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover says they'd probably decline if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ever came calling. He believes it's "fraught with political overtones, and it could get a bit uncomfortable because...[our former guitarist] Ritchie [Blackmore] would have to be involved. Relationships with Ritchie, by his choice, are non-existent, and it wouldn't be a very pleasant experience. But look at all the other acts that haven't been inducted either. We'd probably just say, 'Thanks, but see ya.'" Singer Ian Gillan tends to agree, telling us, "It's an institution that we look at from a distance and go, 'I wonder what that's all about?' But, he does go onto say, "lead me to water and I will drink," which could mean he would accept the honor. Of course, Black Sabbath also said they did not want to be inducted, but did accept the honor in 2006. Deep Purple are down to the last three dates on their Canadian tour, all in British Columbia -- tonight in Prince George, Saturday in Victoria and Sunday in Vancouver. |
