TODD RUNDGREN: At the Crossroads of Harlem

Todd Rundgren will be among the artists taking part in a 100th birthday celebration of blues legend Robert Johnson tonight at the Apollo Theatre in New York. Johnson would have turned 100 last May 11th. Rundgren, who recorded the tribute album Todd Rundgren's Johnson last year, tells us the blues have always been an important part of his music and that his first band after high school was a blues band.

Joining Rundgren tonight will be Sam Moore, Elvis Costello, The Roots, Taj Mahal, Macy Gray, Chuck D, Living Colour, Shemekia Copeland, Keb Mo and many others. Noticeably absent will be some of the artists who cite Johnson as a main influence, including Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons and Robert Plant. Proceeds will go to the Blues Foundation and the Robert Johnson Foundation to provide funding for the construction of the Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis.
