PETER FRAMPTON: Comes to an End

Peter Frampton brings his 35th anniversary Frampton Comes Alive tour to an end this weekend with shows in St. Louis tonight (Friday) and the finale, Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska. The tour started last summer and went overseas in addition to two North American legs.

This last leg was particularly special because he was reunited with the Gibson Les Paul guitar pictured on the album cover, which was thought lost forever following a 1980 plane crash. The guitar made its latest debut at a show last month in New York, and yesterday (Thursday), during an email exchange, Frampton told us, "My old, lost and now found, 1954 Gibson Les Paul has been newly named 'The Phoenix' by my dear friend Marc Mariana who gave me the guitar in 1970. It has just been incredible to play and hold again. It's her unique sound that is THE sound of so much of my earlier music but of course, especially, Comes Alive. You can't describe the sound but as soon as I first picked it up and played it again I realized how unique it really is. The band and I have big smiles every time I play it and the audience gives the guitar a huge ovation."

Contributing to that sound is the addition of bassist Stanley Sheldon, the only other surviving member from the Comes Alive band. Drummer John Siomos died in January 2004 followed by guitarist/keyboardist Bob Mayo just a few weeks later.

Frampton will now take some time off followed by work on the DVD that was shot at that New York show last month, which he hopes to release later this year.
