AEROSMITH: Not the Same Old Song and Dance

Joe Perry has been in Los Angeles working on the new Aerosmith album with Steven Tyler and producer Jack Douglas. He says, "It definitely has a feel like some of the early stuff. People are always asking for something that sounds like the old stuff, but you can't re-write 'Mama Kin' or 'Same Old Song and Dance." All you can do is go in and start from the same place you started when you made those records."

Bassist Tom Hamilton and guitarist Brad Whitford have also written songs for the album. Perry says that makes it "a lot more like an early Aerosmith record. We were all in the room when we were pulling these songs together and recording them."

They hope to have the album, their first with original material since 2001's Just Push Play, out in late spring.

Perry performed his version of Bob Dylan's "Man of Peace" last night on NBC's Tonight Show. It's from the new compilation Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.
