U2: Here's Your Money, Now Go Away

The producers of the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, featuring music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, have reached a settlement with ousted director Julie Taymor.

While the amount has not been disclosed, she will be paid full royalties from November 2009 until she was fired in March of last year. The musical, the most expensive production in Broadway history at $75-million, was plagued with numerous delays, accidents and critical bashing.

However, this settlement does not bring to a close the federal copyright infringement lawsuit brought by Taymor against the producers and their countersuit. Among the things she is seeking are half of all profits derived from the sale, license, transfer or lease of any rights in the original Spider-Man book. The producers, which include The Edge, claim that she was the cause of the numerous delays, which drove up costs, and she "failed to direct a musical about Spider-Man that could open on Broadway."

The show has since gotten on track and grosses more than $1.2-million a week, a figure producers say they need to make to stay viable.
