.E.M.: Want Dirty Ads Stopped |

| The former members of R.E.M. are among the musicians who've joined a campaign to get the Village Voice Media Group to stop running ads for escorts, strip-clubs and other "adult services" on Backpage.com. Village Voice Media, which owns such papers as the Village Voice and Phoenix New Times, has been under fire for continuing to run the ads, which critics say lead to the exploitation of minors.
Ex-R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills says that musicians who admire the Voice's music coverage "should send a clear message to the company that it needs to take action to ensure no child is sexually exploited through use of its site." |
