VAN HALEN: Safety First

David Lee Roth has posted more of his behind-the-scenes videos surrounding the new Van Halen album, A Different Kind of Truth. In addition to talking about some of the new songs, he also discusses sharing hookers with Charlie Sheen and the real reason why the band had a clause in their concert rider in the early '80s requesting no brown M&Ms backstage. Roth says it was a matter of safety. No, no one was allergic to them. He wanted to make sure that promoters read the rider in its entirety because of the size of their stage and how to properly accommodate it in arenas so there would be no safety concerns. If he discovered the brown M&Ms then he knew the rider was not thoroughly read and he would trash the dressing room, but not to the extent that he says has reported and has turned into urban legend.

Van Halen starts their tour Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, but no word yet on what is or isn't in the rider.
